Tribute to Dr. Dorothy I. Height
Last week the country mourned the passing of President Emerita of the National Council for Negro Women and a giant of the American civil rights movement. On April 20, 2010, Dr. Dorothy I. Height passed away. The President of the United States spoke at her funeral on April 29th and hailed her as one who acted behind the scenes to broaden movements to secure rights of all humanity. He stated that she had an unambiguous record of righteous work worthy of remembrance and recognition. She cared about the cause and not the credit. He even injected a bit of humor when he stated that "if you have a nephew who is 88, you have lived a full life." She strategized with civil rights leaders for racial justice and gender equality that spanned more than six decades. Please honor her life by doing all that can be done to change her country for the better.
